After a long day travelling from Northern Ireland it was great to check into the Wellington. The friendliness of the people was the nicest aspect of my trip to Burton upon Trent. The Three Queens hotel is centrally located so easy to walk into town for shops, pubs, etc.
But the town is uninspiring unless you are interested in the history of brewing. Try to avoid arriving at evening rush hour, the traffic is horrific, taking half an hour to travel less than a mile down Hawkins Lane. The best aspect of Burton is the ease of getting out of it - unless it's rush hour - and its proximity to the countryside around - Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire. It's also on a national rail line with reasonable service to the north east and the south west.
I work in Burton but live about an hours drive away so I was purely staying for my works Christmas party. We had the Christmas menu at The Winery which is most delightful and great value for money especially when the boss picks up the bill. Burton is a fairly small town with it's attractions such as The National Brewing Museum within walking distance from the town's shopping centre.
Thetown shopping was pleasant and the local people seemed very friendly. We would consider going back to see more of the area. We have visited Burton upon Trent on many occasions as my Brother-in-Law lives there and we usually stay with them, but on this occasion they had so many visitors for Christmas this is why we had to stay at the Three Queens Hotel, but we always enjoy the walking by the river.

I stayed there for a night on my way to St George's Park. Burton seems to be very small and not much what to do there but I can be wrong. At least it has a train station and it is easy to get there. It's a very nice and interesting town with lots of brewing history.
